EssenceMediacom US and PHD Costa Rica dominates this year’s Festival of Media Global Awards shortlist

EssenceMediacom leads the shortlist with an impressive 58 nominations, driven by its US
and Chinese offices. Following closely behind is PHD with 57 nominations, Mindshare with
45, Wavemaker with 23, and MediaPlus Germany with 15.

From an advertiser perspective, leading the nominations were Sprite, Nosotras, Oreo, The
Barbie Movie, eBay, McDonald’s, Bayer, Coca-Cola and Dove.

The most lauded campaigns on the shortlist were PHD Costa Rica’s Welcome to the group
with 10 shortlisted mentions, followed by EssenceMediacom China’s 1982 Sprite campaign
with 7 shortlisted mentions and PHD Peru’s Band-Aid Breakthrough: Changing Peru’s Period
Narrative campaign with 7 shortlisted mentions.

The shortlisted entries spanned from all corners of the region, with the top ten most
awarded countries being the UK, US, Germany, India, China, Australia, Canada, Costa Rica,
Sweden and Taiwan.

The first round of judging left the shortlisting jury impressed by the calibre of work, making
the shortlist selection process challenging.

Leah Mellard, Awards Manager, Festival of Media said: “The work this year was outstanding
and the first round of judges were left with some tough decisions. What’s pleasing is to the
see the standard of work from smaller media nations such as Sweden, Costa Rica and
Taiwan competing the more established media behemoths like the US, China and the UK. It
all makes for some interesting debates in the final round of judging at the end of May.”
